Search engines increasingly understand the web not as a collection of words but as a network of things: companies, people, places, products, concepts. These things are called entities. Being clearly recognised as an entity means being represented correctly in knowledge panels, in AI answers and in brand searches.
What an entity is
An entity is something uniquely identifiable with properties and relationships. A consultancy has a name, a registered office, a legal form, a founder, services and products. A language model answering a question on a topic draws on knowledge about such entities. The clearer and more consistent the signals, the more reliable the attribution.
The signals
Consistency: the same name, address and core data on the website, the commercial register, directories and profiles. Structured data: an Organization entity under Schema.org with a stable @id referenced on every page, a Person entity for the founder, sameAs references to official profiles. Topical clarity: content that connects the entity with its topics rather than being everything for everyone. And mentions on other trustworthy sites.
Entities and language models
For GEO, entity SEO is fundamental. A model can only recommend or cite what it can attribute unambiguously. Confusion with organisations of the same name, contradictory information or a missing description of what a company does lead to inaccurate or missing mentions. A file such as llms.txt helps summarise the entity and its offering in machine-readable form.
In practice
First, define a canonical description of the company and use it identically everywhere. Second, set up structured data with unique identifiers for organisation, founder and products and link them. Third, make authorship visible, which also strengthens E-E-A-T. Fourth, build topic clusters that show what the entity stands for. Fifth, actively distinguish yourself from namesakes, for example with unique qualifiers and register details.
At Innopulse
On innopulse.io, the organisation based in Zug is the central entity with a stable identifier, the founder is linked as a Person entity of his own, and every product points to its own domain. This structure is part of our GEO and AEO optimisation offer.
